I like the hashtag #AskFediverse
In the past I started using Twitter because it had some kinda similar thing where you got answers quickly that you cannot get on search engines!
Let's use that
#AskFediverse what router should I buy?
I'm thinking of switching to #fiber7 provided by #init7. They give dual stack v4/v6 by default, no CG NAT, and will setup a PTR record at no extra cost.
However, you bring your own hardware. They recommend some models, including the #turris #omnia, a cheaper fritzbox, and otherwise give the specs for the bi-di SFP transceiver needed.
I already have an #openwrt router, so either I combine it with a converter, invest in the #turris, or something else

I then have to go through the pain of their js bloated site to look for the information.
Once there and logged in they don't even clearly state the address. Instead a link to Google maps is opened with the address in the URL.
I mean come on, I thought all this js bloat was supposed to make the web friendlier? 🤮
The unreasonable effectiveness of simple HTML
I've told this story at conferences - but due to the general situation I thought I'd retell it here.
A few years ago I was doing policy research in a housing benefits office in London. They are singularly unlovely places. The walls are brightened up with posters offering helpful services for people fleeing domestic violen
A mystery has been solved! I've spotted this nudibranch a handful of times but was never able to get a good picture owing to the size: they're <1 cm long. (This, although it looks well-sized, is at minimum focus distance, 155 mm lens, and zoomed in post.) Turns out it's an Okenia mirimarae, which has yet to be reported this deep in the Mediterranean. Looks like it's time to contact the authors and tell them that they've spread! #weloveslug
